Power Core: Terror C

Previous Chapter: Stolen

Tom was sat in his mathematics classroom known as M2 when his phone began to vibrate in his pocket. Taking it out discretely in order to not alert his teacher, Jeremy Hunt. On his phone was the warning:

TERROR ATTACK IMMINENT – CYDONIAN – COOMBESHEAD ACADEMY

The message sent a chill down his spine, suddenly he realised that he was powerless and defenseless.
"TOM!" boomed his teacher. "Hand over the phone right now."
          "Can't, I'm busy," Tom retorted.
"You are in a maths lesson studying for your GCSE. What is more important may I ask?" Mr Hunt snapped.
"Staying alive to take the exam in the first place," Tom shrugged, not looking up from his phone.
"And how does your phone effect that?" Hunt questioned.
"Because with it I can figure out exactly when the aliens are going to attack," Tom remarked still staring at his phone as it zoomed in upon his school.
"Aliens? Really? That's what you're going with?" Kyle, the smartass of the class laughed, the rest of the class joined in. "Aliens aren't real, and definitely are not on Earth."
"Turn around..." Tom sighed. The entire class continued to laugh and turned towards Kyle. What they saw caused the laughter to cease.

The sudden silence shocked Kyle who decided to turn his body 180 degrees, expecting it to be a prank by the rest of the class, the sight of a pinkish hovering alien caused him to feel both amazed and terrified simultaneously. And then he fainted.

While the rest of the class stood watching the alien, unmoving, both Tom and the alien set to work. The alien aiming its weapon at Kyle'd head; Tom busy piecing his gun together as quickly as possible.

Suddenly a scream from one of the girls on Kyle's table pressured Tom to work faster. He placed the bullets into gun faster than he had started and just seconds before Kyle's brains were blasted onto the floor, Tom knocked a table over to distract the monster before jumping behind the teacher's desk.

Chaos. Complete and utter chaos.

As Tom landed, the entire room erupted into chaos as the class rushed to escape the room.

Tom loaded a bullet into the barrel of the gun and fired it into the air causing all of the kids to hit the deck, allowing Tom to quickly rearm his weapon and aim it at the creature's head, thus blasting the baffled thing's brains onto the wall behind it.

While everyone lay on the floor too scared to move, Tom moved across the room towards Kyle and the pink monster. Kyle's face was bloodied; his right arm was twisted in the wrong direction as were his fingers on his left hand. "Poor kid," Tom sighed.
"What's wrong Tom?" his teacher asked, not moving from his hiding place behind the table Tom had knocked over.
"Alien's dead. Kyle's been trampled and is also dead," Tom noted before heading towards the door.
"What about us?" one of the girls begged.
He let of a sigh before turning. "Sir, catch," he decided and threw his revolver to his teacher.
"What about you?" Hunt asked. "How will you defend yourself?"
"By doing what comes naturally to me," Tom smiled. "I'll improvise."
"Surely using a weapon would be better?" Jeremy Hunt asked. "That thing would have killed you if you hadn't had this."
"I can take a beating and still bring down my foe," Tom explained. "And besides, if I lose to a fairy I think I would probably kill myself out of embarrassment," he added while snapping a table leg off the table. He quickly turned and threw it straight into another alien's head before it could do anything.

Tom left the room shortly after that and retrieved his metal pole and knocked on the door of the class next door.

He opened the door to find that the other class was strangely oblivious to the chaos in the room next door. "Hey miss, I need to speak to Jack now," Tom noted.
"We're in the middle of a lesson, and you should be in yours," the teacher retorted.
"You mean the lesson where an alien just had his brains blown out and a kid was trampled to death?" Tom countered causing Jack to stand and walk towards him.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"Tom duck!" Jack yelled before he could answer.

Tom dropped to the floor while Jack jumped to the side, over the table on his right. Over Tom's head came a green ball of plasma that struck the teacher in the chest and sent her flying through the glass at the back of the room.

Before anyone could react to the teacher being shot, Tom had launched his table leg at the alien, which struck the monster in the chest knocking it back out the door it came through and into the bench outside.
"One of these days, one of them will kill you," Jack remarked.
"Not if you're always there for them to kill instead," Tom retorted as Jack picked up an unused chair and broke 1 set of legs off of it.
"Now, lets destroy the alien ship," Jack stated, his voice turning serious. "The human way."

The alien ship had parked itself in the heart of the school in an extremely convenient clearing behind the language block. "See, I knew they should have put something there," Tom moaned when he saw the ship. "From there something can get wherever they want with ease."
"Yeah, well maybe they'll think about it now," Jack laughed while swinging his two pronged metal weapon around the corner and into an alien's back. "Who's going to handle cleanup today?"
"Probably us," Tom shrugged. "Everyone else is trying to find Naomi."
"Everyone else?" Jack asked. "Who the hell is left? She went on a bloody rampage through the house and miniaturized everyone."
"Maddi and Connie," Tom shrugged as they approached the towering, silver machine that was the alien spacecraft.
"I don't want to," Jack moaned as Tom launched his metal table leg towards the language block, through a window and into an alien's head. Afterwards he picked up the volleyball net's pole that was laid on the floor after the second pole and net had been crushed by the machine.

Tom and Jack then proceeded to explore the craft, finding the bottom floor empty they venture up to the second floor. "You're late," Emma's voice sounded from next to the exit.
          "Really, we're late?" Jack questioned.
"We've killed five of them already, how many have you got?" Tom questioned.
"Four, but there is only one of me but two of you," Emma taunted.
"For the record, Jack only killed one of those five," Tom countered. "So we're tied."
"Okay, whoever kills less has to pay the winner £5?" Emma challenged.
"Deal," Tom agreed shaking her hand.

The three of them then proceeded to explore the top floor of the alien ship, finding only three aliens on their way around.
"Okay, I'm winning and this is the last room," Tom mocked.
"Only because you can throw a flaming javelin with superhuman precision, you stole two of my kills," Emma retorted.
"Still my kills anyways," Tom laughed as he pushed the door open slightly.

Counting down from three, Tom silently told Emma and Jack what to do. When he reached zero they both bolted into the room like cheetahs and took out the remaining aliens.
Name Final Kill Count
Tom 10
Emma 11
Jack 5
"Yes! I win, I win," Emma chanted, her father meanwhile ignored her and started to hack into the ship's main computer. She went up to her father and placed her hand out in front of him, "Pay up."
"Fine," Tom grumbled and got five pounds out of his wallet and placed it in Emma's hand while he waited for the system to load. "Now, who is blackmailing Naomi?" He asked himself rhetorically as he searched through the thousands of files on the system.

Half and hour had passed, during which Jack has run a complete run of the school and cleared out any remaining aliens. He walked back into the Control Room of the ship to find Tom and Emma still searching through the files.
"Are you seriously not done yet?" Jack laughed.
"Shut up," Tom snapped. "Finding a single file on anything specific on this thing is next to impossible."
"Got it!" Emma cried before relaxing in her chair.
"What then?" Tom questioned when his daughter remained silent for two minutes.
"Oh, yeah," Emma stated, trying to act, albeit badly, like she'd forgotten to explain what she found despite the fact that she wanted them to read it themselves. "Remember the Paris incident..."
"Yeah, Naomi lost control and suffocated almost the entire city," Tom recounted. "But I wiped everything to do with that..."
"Well, apparently the Cydonians had some recordings and after the passing of death law for any Protector who harms any human within the UN with their powers...well it appears they got to her and began to blackmail her into doing their bidding or they would release the videos of her murdering everyone onto the internet," Emma explained.
"How would it hold any wait though?" Jack asked as Tom began wiping the database. "Not only did it happen before the law was passed but we've got enough money to afford a good enough lawyer to help plead temporary insanity."
"Yeah well maybe murdering the entire population of Paris is enough to have a loophole to apply the law to it," Emma suggested.
"All of the evidence it deleted from this ship and I've sent a virus or two up to wipe everything to do with Naomi from their main database which will wipe it from everything else one they connect to the main database," Tom listed. "Also I found Power Core..."
"Then lets go and get it then," Emma stated sternly before they all got up and headed out of the ship.

Once they were out the ship floated into the air and exploded somewhere above the school where it wouldn't do too much damage.
